Tomato Salmonella Scare

If you wanted a great reason to start a garden at home, or a community garden, the wave of salmonella scares is it. The booming industrial-agriculture industry is the cause of tainted tomatoes, lettuce, and beef. The FDA calls this current outbreak an “uncommon strain” of salmonella called Saintpaul.

Tomatoes produced on an industrial scale come into contact with poultry processing- from the intestinal tracts of animals and birds.

I do not currently have tomato seeds, but I would love to be able to offer heirloom, organic, tasty, salmonella-free tomatoes. If you have any seeds you would like to donate to the Jacksonville Seed Exchange, please drop me a line; I would love to hear from you.

  1. Didn’t they determine that the bad seeds came from Mexico?
